“The DOL’s proposed rule will harm investors by diminishing their access to financial advice, reducing consumer choice, and increasing costs for folks looking to save for their retirement. This proposal will undoubtedly make it more difficult for hardworking Americans, especially folks who are starting to save or who have lower or more moderate incomes to save for retirement, yet the DOL seems to be ignoring that urgent message expressed by both savers and financial advisors. For this reason, I joined with a bipartisan group to send a letter to the Secretary of Labor suggesting that this rule be re-proposed to protect those saving for retirement. I look forward to working with my colleagues on the Financial Services Committee to eliminate excessive regulation and to promote smart governance so Americans will have the ability and choice to properly plan for their futures.”
Rep. Jenkins is a cosponsor of H.R. 1462, the Protecting Our Infants Act, sponsored by Rep. Katherine Clark (D-Mass.). The bill would help advance the research needed to develop the absolute best care available for babies with NAS, building on best practices from doctors and nurses in West Virginia and across the country. The bill passed by voice vote Tuesday. On Tuesday, U.S. Representative Evan Jenkins (R-W.Va.) spoke on the House floor in support of legislation to help provide better care for newborns with neonatal abstinence syndrome, exposure to heroin and opioids during pregnancy.
Congressman Walter B. Jones and several congressional colleagues joined forces to call on the U.S. Army of Corps of Engineers to meet its statutory mandate to perform an assessment of the maintenance dredging needs along the Atlantic and Gulf Intracoastal Waterways. A 2014 law required the Corps to complete the assessment by September of last year, but the Corps failed to do so. In a letter to the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works, Jo-Ellen Darcy, Congressman Jones and his colleagues called on the Corps to follow the law and expedite completion of the assessment. Yesterday’s joint letter comes on the heels of Congressman Jones making a similar demand earlier this year.
Said the House Freedom Caucus Statement Regarding Planned Parenthood Funding: “Given the appalling revelations surrounding Planned Parenthood, we cannot in good moral conscience vote to send taxpayer money to this organization while still fulfilling our duty to represent our constituents. We must therefore oppose any spending measure that contains funding for Planned Parenthood.”
U.S. Reps. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA, 19th) and Mike Honda (D-CA, 17th) applauded new procedures announced yesterday to allow employment and family-based immigrants to start their green card process earlier. The new procedures, issued by the State Department and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, will allow tens of thousands of would-be immigrants to begin benefitting from important rights and protections that are afforded to Lawful Permanent Residents.
